Mountain Lake Completes Construction Phase of Golf Course Restoration Project

Tyler Rae-Led Multi-Million Dollar Restoration Set to Open in Early November; Will Feature Distinctive Characteristics Found in Seth Raynor’s Original Design

Mountain Lake, the prestigious gated community in Central Florida’s lake district, has completed the construction phase of its golf course restoration project, with reopening on schedule for early November. NMP served as general contractor, selected for our expertise in recreating the character of early 1900s golf course design while meeting modern maintenance standards. The multi-million dollar project was led by architect Tyler Rae and centered on three areas: full reconstruction of all 18 putting surfaces, strategic design enhancements drawn from archival photos and historic research, and the repositioning and modernization of bunkers throughout.

The greens rebuild was both a performance and a heritage play. The previous surfaces, constructed in the early 2000s, had reached the end of their functional life with subsurface materials that had hardened and limited drainage. Each new green now replicates the sizes, shapes, and distinctive characteristics found in historical photographs, including Seth Raynor’s original 1917 sketch of the first nine, and has been sprigged with TifEagle Bermuda grass. Bunker work followed the same philosophy: modernized for durability and washout resistance, with select bunkers repositioned to mirror what archival photography revealed.

“Standing on the course and seeing the transformation of an already top-tier club, I can only imagine how much higher Mountain Lake will rise,” said Darryl Bartlett, Senior Manager and Chief Development Officer of NMP Golf Construction. “It was truly a blessing to be part of such an all-star team and to help lovingly restore this Seth Raynor gem.”
